ALTAMONTE SPRINGS - As construction starts Friday on SunRail, officials concede that the success of the $1.2 billion commuter train likely will be tied as much to buses as to laying new tracks or future depots.
The reason is simple: The station that will serve this town of more than 43,000 residents is — like others on what eventually will be a 61-mile system — not that close to where many will want to go.
In fact, the SunRail stop here is about 1 1/2 miles east from the Altamonte Mall, Uptown Altamonte and Cranes Roost Park, the community's three most popular destinations. Continued
