Derailment of Grand Elk Railroad freight train is company's first in Kalamazoo

The derailment of a Grand Elk Railroad freight train this morning is the company's first such incident in the Kalamazoo area in its three years here, General Manager Joe Forchione said.
The train derailed about a mile short of its destination at Graphic Packaging when a section of track broke at the corner of Porter and Myrtle streets in Kalamazoo. It startled some nearby residents with sounds of screeching and the sensation that the ground was shaking. Continued
