1895: Plant railroad system takes over local lines

The Ocala Banner announced in June 1895 that the Henry Plant railroad system had taken control of the Florida Southern and Silver Springs, Ocala and Gulf railroads, and was beginning to set up connections between them.
Plant's goal was to create a continuous rail line from New York to Tampa and beyond. He was accomplishing this goal by buying up small, independent railroad companies all along the line. The final result would be called the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. Continued
