Railway proposal sparks a protest

GLENS FALLS - Saratoga and North Creek Railway's plan to restore and reopen a 30-mile stretch of track connecting North Creek with a former mine at Tahawus is facing a challenge from an environmental organization called Protect the Adirondacks.
The objection led the federal Surface Transportation Board to reject the railroad's notice to operate the line under so-called common carrier status. That move would have put the line under federal jurisdiction. Continued
