Norfolk Southern Prichard Intermodal facility receives $12 million TIGER grant

BLUEFIELD — A major intermodal center in the heart of Norfolk Southern’s Heartland Corridor project will benefit from the most recent round of TIGER grants from the federal Department of Transportation, but at least one local highway promoter was disappointed that the King Coal Highway was not among the group of 46 projects that received funds from the project.
On Thursday, the U.S. DOT announced on NS’s Prichard intermodal terminal would receive $12 million through the TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant program. The $35 million Prichard facility is a key component of the Columbus, Ohio to Hampton Roads, Va., corridor project designed to increase NS’s freight moving capability. The Prichard project is the only Mountain State project included in the TIGER grant project. Continued
