Christmas Day bridge crossing major milestone

As Christmas approached in the winter of 1871, residents in the Three Forks area were watching with anticipation for a very important arrival. It wasn’t Santa Claus they were expecting, however; it was the Missouri-Kansas & Texas Railroad.
When the MKT won the right to cross Indian Territory by being the first Kansas rail line to reach the border, its managers believed they could cross quickly through Indian lands to reach Texas. But that proved not to be true. Continued
