Way cleared for landfill operator to buy railroad

LISBON - The path has been cleared for the operator of the Negley landfill to proceed with plans to purchase the former Youngstown & Southern Railroad from the Columbiana County Port Authority.
The Ohio Rail Development Commission agreed last week to modify the terms of a loan made to the port authority in 2003 to help with the rehabilitation of the defunct railroad purchased four years before.
ORDC public information officer Stu Nicholson said the loan was modified to help with efforts by Total Waste Logistics (TWL) to purchase the railroad from the port authority. TWL operates the construction and demolition debris landfill in Negley, which is serviced by the 36-mile rail line. Continued
