Seacoast train supporters rejoice as federal funding cuts spared

EXETER — Public transportation groups who feared federal funding cuts would greatly impact the Amtrak Downeaster are breathing a sigh of relief.
Late last week the House and Senate appropriations subcommittees reached an agreement on a $1.4 billion budget for Amtrak that maintains federal support for the operation of state-supported intercity passenger rail trains, such as the Downeaster.
The measure was formally approved Thursday, Nov. 17, and signed by President Barack Obama on Friday. Continued
