Carpendale's hiking trail joins railroad tunnel to towpath

CARPENDALE, W.Va. — A majority of the second phase of Carpendale’s hiking trail, stretching from the east face of an old railroad tunnel to the C&O Canal towpath, is complete, according to Mayor Butch Armentrout.
The trail, which took about a month to complete, is waiting on signage — including a stop sign and interpretive signs providing history — from the National Park Service.
Armentrout would also like to place a sign dedicated to former workers of the Western Maryland Railroad near the portion of the trail located by Town Hall. Continued
