Christo, railroad agree to move tagged rolling stock

CANON CITY — Those graffiti-riddled empty freight cars that have been parked along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in the Big Horn Sheep Canyon between here and Salida are being moved.
About 400 rail cars have been parked between Texas Creek and Canon City over the past two years, a testament to a poor economy.

Christo's planned Over the River project, which will entail leasing the rail tracks to move equipment into the canyon as the grand scale art project unfolds, is the reason the railcars are being moved out, according to Terri Madigan, Canon City area director for Friends of Over the River.
