Trains will resume running on the new Mid-Jordan TRAX line on Tuesday, after being shut down nearly a month to make safety improvements designed to avoid accidents like the one that killed Shariah Casper, 15, on June 8.
Improvements made by the Utah Transit Authority include removing portions of sound walls that obstructed pedestrian views of oncoming trains.
On the sides of roads where gates that drop in front of cars do not also drop in front of sidewalks, the UTA installed rail fences that will funnel pedestrians to swing gates. Signs on the gates urge them to look both ways before proceeding. Continued
