National Train Day at Portland's Union Station on Saturday will celebrate history of railroads

Deep in the jungle of trains, rails and cargo trucks at Brooklyn Rail Yard in Southeast Portland, a beast is coming to life.
A 110-foot-long, 433-ton, 5,500-horsepower beast. It's the SP 4449, one of the last remaining operable steam locomotives, and it's getting ready for its visit to Portland's Union Station for National Train Day this Saturday.
The free event is part of a nationwide celebration of trains and railroads and in addition to the SP 4449, includes a wide range of railroad history from its early days to modern times. Continued
