Long Island Rail Road riders will continue facing delayed rush hour commutes through Friday while emergency repairs inside one of the East River tunnels take longer than expected, officials said.
Once again, the LIRR will reduce, by about a quarter, the number of westbound peak trains that normally operate into Penn Station on Wednesday morning. Twenty two of 98 trains will be canceled, terminated or diverted–just like Tuesday.
“The repair work includes replacement of 275 track ties damaged Sunday when an Amtrak train derailed in the tunnel,” LIRR officials said in a statement on its website. Continued
