Berkshires-to-NYC railway link has big upside

The proposed Housatonic Railroad link connecting the Berkshires directly to New York’s Grand Central Terminal looks like it would represent a significant boon for the region.
By the end of this month, a study by Williams College economist Stephen Sheppard is expected to provide the rail line with the information it needs to seek mostly private investment in the $200 million project.
According to Sheppard, the preliminary findings indicate that the link would generate "hundreds of millions of dollars" for the Berkshires and for Litchfield County in Connecticut. Specific impact figures just for Berkshire County are part of his final numbers-crunching. Continued
